Abstract
In this study, household consumption function is estimated over the distinction of rural / urban settlements in Turkey. The database of this study is obtained from Turkey Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT)’s "Household Budget Survey" survey for the years 2004-2013. Generalized Linear Model (GLM) is used due to the skewness in the income and expenditure series. This study, carried out fundamental differences from previous studies are as follows: application of GLM in the estimation of consumption function in Turkey; and testing the theoretical consistency of the socio-psychological based propensities of the consumption pattern, through the rural-urban differentiation. Income elasticity by total coefficients in urban areas estimated 0.73, according to the permanent income hypothesis and 0.86 according to the life cycle hypothesis. Ignoring the wealth effect in models leads to an inefficient result. Therefore, alternative model comparisons with GLM reveal that more appropriate results have been obtained from the life cycle hypothesis.

Türkiye’de Hanehalkı Tüketim Fonksiyonu: Kır - Kent Analizi (2004-2013)

Ozet
Bu çalışmada, hanehalkı tüketim fonksiyonu, Türkiye örnekleminde kır/kent yerleşim yeri ayrımı üzerinden tahmin edilmektedir. Çalışmanın verileri Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu (TÜİK) 'Hanehalkı Bütçe Anketi’ mikro veri tabanından (2004-2013) elde edilmiştir. Gelir ve harcama serilerindeki çarpıklık nedeniyle Genelleştirilmiş Doğrusal Model (GLM) kullanılmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın, yapılan önceki çalışmalardan temel farkları şu şekildedir: Türkiye’de hanehalkı verileri üzerinde tüketim fonksiyonunun tahmininde ilk kez Genelleştirilmiş Doğrusal Model kullanılmıştır. Ayrıca bu model üzerinden kır-kent ayrımlı tüketim davranışının tahmincileri yardımıyla, tüketim kalıbının birbirinden farklı oluşunun sosyo-psikolojik temelli önermelerin teorik tutarlılığı test edilmektedir. Sürekli gelir hipotezine göre, kentte yaşayan bir tüketicinin gelire göre harcama esnekliği toplam katsayılar itibariyle 0,73; yaşam boyu gelir hipotezine göre de 0,86’dır. Modelde servet etkisini ihmal etmek oldukça sapmalı bir sonuç doğurmaktadır. Dolayısıyla GLM modellemesiyle alternatif model karşılaştırmaları göstermektedir ki; ‘yaşam boyu gelir hipotezi’ ile daha uygun sonuçlar elde edilmiştir.
